Site Support Apprentice – Cost Management – Level 4

About the role:  

We have a new exciting opportunity to work as a Site Support Apprentice to join our Highways team in Hull on the A63 project.  

This role with give you the opportunity to work for a market leading company, whilst gaining valuable skills and experience to ensure you develop to your full potential throughout the apprenticeship. You will provide professional administrative support services to Site Support teams to ensure accurate project reporting and be responsible for processing transactions in an effective, efficient and timely manner.

What the apprenticeship will offer:  

Balfour Beatty offers a comprehensive training programme in Professional Accounting Technician with the opportunity of completing industry recognised vocational qualifications. You will provide effective, efficient, confidential and comprehensive administrative support to our business. As part of the Apprenticeship scheme you will be supported with gaining an AAA/CIMA accreditation in Professional Accounting Technician (L4) and the length of this course is typically18 months.

In addition to supporting you through your formal apprentice qualification, you will follow the Balfour Beatty Enhanced Apprentice programme. This is a mix of development events and activities, plus in year 2 you will compete in the Balfour Beatty Brathay Apprentice Challenge, to help us find the Balfour Beatty Apprentice Team of the Year! The challenge is a mix of community engagement activities and a team building event in the Lake District. Your responsibilities as a Site Support Apprentice:

·            Processing of transactions including plant transactions, catalogue call-offs within delegated authority levels, material receipt/ GRN processing, invoice processing, PNPO processing, supplier query resolution, and other sundry transactions

·            Ensure that site support processes are consistently and rigorously applied across projects in accordance with all relevant CSUK policies

·            Liaise with Cost Supervisors on issues with specific projects for escalation and resolution. (eg GRN issues, complex invoice queries, etc)

·            Live the Balfour Beatty Values

·            Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm

·            Support the delivery of CSUKs Sustainability activities



 Who we’re looking for:

  • You will have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s 9-4/ A*-C or equivalent including Maths & English, coupled with an interest in an Assistant Accountant career path
  • You will have a have a friendly, flexible approach to your working day and a willingness to work with and support colleagues
  • You will have an enthusiastic, engaged attitude and eagerness to learn and develop personally and professionally
  • The ability to work with people at various levels both internal Balfour Beatty and external and apply and comply with site support procedures is essential.
  • MS Office packages including Excel (Basic level) skills are required
  • You will have a strong work ethic and willingness to take responsibility for your academic and vocational development.
  • Pass pre-employment medical which will include a Drug & Alcohol test
