Barratt Homes

Our Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in Technical will provide you with the experience, training and support you need to become a future Technical Co-ordinator. Technical Coordinators ensure that each Barratt home is tailored to local design code – with carefully engineered structures and placemaking – and that they align with our ‘Great Places’ ethos. As you progress, you’ll work with internal designers and engineers, urban designers and planners on a variety of schemes.

Our Technical team bridge the gap between the Land, Quantity Surveying and Construction departments, managing and leading sites from purchase through to construction. It’s a role that required detailed technical design knowledge and an understanding of civil engineering. As part of the Technical team, your duties will include selecting materials and house types for schemes; reviewing floor plans and layouts; investigating topographical levels and highways; developing sustainable drainage strategies and adopting modern methods of construction (MMC) in your design solutions. You’ll work both onsite and in the office, and will need to consider both design requirements and the needs of yours and the Construction teams.

You’ll need to communicate design changes to various departments, and develop your project management skills, particularly when working with external consultants. You’ll form an essential part in Barratt Developments’ drive towards a zero-carbon future by 2030, using innovative, cost-effective design approaches such as timber-frame construction, spantherm and airtight insulation. We need enthusiastic people who are willing to learn. Creativity and an analytical mind are integral to delivering high-quality homes.

Your university modules will provide academic teaching on best practice, regulation, and everything an exceptional Technical professional needs to master. By the time you’ve finished, we hope you’ll be running a site of your own. Your degree will equip you with the latest information about modern construction methods and sustainable building techniques, plus people and management skills.
