Connecting people and machines for over 170 years, BT Group continues to have a massive impact on our day-to-day life.

With four brands and 100,000 people under its umbrella, BT Group is at the forefront of the technology space.

BT Group offers 2500+ apprenticeships a year across BT, EE, Plusnet and Openreach – more than any other private sector business in the UK.

Which apprenticeships do they offer?

The BT Group offers a wide range of apprenticeships for different ages and stages of your career, including:

  • Summer/Industrial Placements (11 months in the penultimate year of an undergraduate degree)
  • Intermediate – (Level 2) equivalent to five good GCSE passes
  • Advanced – work towards a Level 3 NVQ, equivalent to two A-level passes
  • Higher – (Level 4 / 5) equivalent to a foundation degree
  • Full Degree (Level 6) – You will earn a work-based degree qualification

Apprenticeships are offered in a range of subjects, including Research and Innovation, Customer Service, Cyber Security, Field Engineering, Facilities Management, Software Engineering, and Unified Communications, to name but a few.

What are the entry requirements?

The standard UK apprenticeship entry requirements are:

  • You must be 16 or over
  • A UK resident
  • Not already in full-time education

Most BT apprenticeships also require you to have 4 GCSEs of C or above (or equivalent), with Maths and English Language being two of the four. Some BT apprenticeships may also require a clean driving licence.

When can I apply?

BT Group apprenticeships run throughout the year, so it’s a case of staying on top of the job adverts and applying as soon as possible.

Applications are made online, with candidates completing an application form. Those who meet the criteria will be asked to complete an online factors assessment, followed by an online video interview if your application is being progressed.

How long does a BT Apprenticeship last?

While the summer placements last 11 months, other BT apprenticeships may last anywhere from 12 months to four years depending on the level and role within the company.

What happens at the end of the apprenticeship?

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will be given the option to continue your career within the BT Group. This could be in the same role and team or may mean transferring your skills to a different department within the business. Of course, you can also head off to new pastures, if you prefer.

Are the apprenticeships paid for positions?

Yes, BT has a minimum starting salary for apprentices of £17,922 per year. This may increase over the course of your apprenticeship as you reach milestones and gain practical experience and skills.
