Degree Apprenticeships at GCHQ (Register interest 2024/25)

GCHQ

Degree apprenticeships give you the chance to join GCHQ, work on real-life projects and earn a degree along the way. So instead of paying uni fees, you’ll start your career, earn while you learn and receive a huge amount of support. Plus, your degree will be awarded by a uni, so it’s equivalent to taking an undergraduate route.

CyberFirst Degree Apprenticeship (Cyber Security)

Working with both GCHQ and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), you’ll get unique insights and exposure into cutting-edge technologies. Over three years, you’ll get a mix of university-delivered classroom and lab education, along with technical training, mentoring and job shadowing. And once you’ve gained your degree, you might even be offered a job.

Software Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

Based in Manchester, you’ll collaborate with our teams to tackle threats and build tech that disrupts terrorists. You’ll take advantage of university-delivered classroom and lab education, along with technical training and relevant placements. Taking on real business challenges, you’ll work with some of most sophisticated equipment while gaining a degree.

Cyber First Careers

About to leave school and wondering what to do next? On the CyberFirst degree apprenticeship, it isn’t about choosing between university and work. With us, you’ll have both: you’ll get a paying job with a prestigious organisation and you’ll earn your degree for free too.

  • A three-year programme, balancing a full-time role and studying for a degree
  • From day one, you’ll have a working role within GCHQ, the UK’s largest intelligence agency
  • You’ll have a starting salary of over £22,000 in your new role
  • You’ll also study for a BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security at a respected UK university
  • As well as paying your salary, we’ll pay all the tuition fees of your degree – avoiding student debt
  • You’ll be based in Cheltenham for the first two years, then in your final year you’ll be recruited to a post, usually in Cheltenham, but occasionally in Scarborough, Bude or Manchester
  • We’ll aim to place you in a full-time role at GCHQ or the NCSC if you successfully complete your degree and apprenticeship
  • You get exactly the same degree as any university student – but with extensive work experience too
