Our apprenticeship and trainee programmes in Technical or Commercial will give you the skills and professional qualifications to enjoy a career that could take you right up to Director level.

Starting in September each year, the programme combines on and off-the-job training to learn the technical elements of the role with industry-leading further study. All of this together means you’ll have the foundations for an exciting and rewarding career with Barratt at the forefront of one of the most exciting industries in Britain.

You will choose to specialise in one of the following: quantity surveying, engineering, buying, or design. Whichever you pick, you’ll be treated as an important part of the future of Barratt. You’ll have a dedicated coach to guide and work with you day-to-day to give you the technical knowledge you need and regular reviews with your manager to make sure you’re reaching your potential. These will complement opportunities to make a real difference, on real projects every day.

Technical team – Engineering & Design

In this team you’ll train as an Engineer or an Architectural Assistant and get involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. We have a huge variety of developments across the UK and all of them have unique problems to solve. In this team, you’ll use your technical skills to help prepare the design programme, respond to site queries and ensure that drawings are in accordance with the approved planning scheme.

Commercial team – Quantity Surveying & Buying

Our Commercial team, comprising of Estimators, Quantity Surveyors and Material Buyers has one objective: to deliver the best quality homes, at the best possible cost. Their work is fundamental to our business and presents a fast-moving challenge where you’ll use your creativity and commercial flair to the full.

The role will require you to demonstrate your organisational skills as you undertake accurate viability and feasibility studies to support how we choose which sites to buy and develop. You’ll help manage the supply of materials and labour for sites, prepare tenders and reporting, as well as assist the Surveyors with their day-to-day duties.
